Associate Member of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (A.M.I.I.Chem.E.)

The qualifying examination of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers for the award of its diploma A.M.I.I.Chem.E. also known as A.M.I.I.Ch.E., is being held twice a year. This diploma of this institute (A.M.I.I.Chem.E.) is recognized by the Government of India, Ministry of Education, and considered as equivalent to Chemical Engineering Bachelor Degree.

Prerequisites:

The students with any of the following qualifications can do this A.M.I.I.Chem.E. by self study:

(i) A degree in Science with Chemistry and/or Physics and/or Mathematics

(ii) Diploma in Engineering including Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology

Besides the above prerequisites, every candidate must have at least 2 years of practical experience related to chemical engineering area.

Examination:

Conducted twice a year, usually, during September & in March in the Major Cities of INDIA.

Examination Papers:

Consists of three parts:

Part - I:

A total of seven papers:

  1. Mathematics
  2. Physics
  3. Chemistry
  4. Mechanical Engineering
  5. Electrical Engineering & Electronics
  6. Engineering Drawing (including Materials of Construction)
  7. General Chemical Technology

The candidate may, however, get exemption from one or more papers according to their previous educational background.

Part - IIA: Compulsory Papers

  1. Chemical Process Principles
  2. Fluid Dynamics
  3. Heat Transfer
  4. Mass Transfer
  5. Mechanical Operations
  6. Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics
  7. Chemical Reaction Engineering
  8. Fuels, Refractories and Furnaces
  9. Instrumentation and Process Control

Part - IIB: Optional Papers (any one)

  1. Reactor Design
  2. Design and Fabrication of Chemical Equipment
  3. Chemical Engineering Economics
  4. Effluent Treatment System and Equipment Design

Part - III: Home Paper

Involves Design of a chemical process plant and detailed design of a major piece of equipment.(Duration: 3 months)

Course Duration:

Candidates may appear for Part-I and Part-IIA & Part-IIB simultaneously. Only after successful completion of Part-I and Part-II, home paper will be assigned.
